Another day, another Coutinho transfer rumour, and it looks like Barcelona are prepared to offer a significant fee to sigh Liverpool's coveted Brazilian maestro.
Last month, Spanish newspaper Sport claimed that Barcelona were in 'advanced talks with Liverpool about signing Coutinho', and that the 'final step to agreeing the deal' was imminent. Now, according to Sky Sports:
"Barcelona are preparing a £51m [€60m] offer to lure Coutinho to the Nou Camp next season".
Barcelona are so desperate to seal the deal that they're reportedly willing to include one of their top players in the deal. A recent report from Don Balon claimed:
"Coutinho is a priority for Barcelona, and they plan to include Ivan Rakitic as part of the deal in aid to lower the Coutinho's fee".
Rakitic is not a like-for-like replacement for Coutinho, but given his quality and experience, the Croatian will undoubtedly strengthen Liverpool's first-team.
I conducted a poll recently asking fans if the Reds should try and get Rakitic as part of a deal for Coutinho, and 58% of participants voted YES.
£51m plus Rakitic is a no-brainer, but £51m by itself is daylight robbery. Coutinho is an established Brazil international; his best years are almost certainly ahead, and he just signed a new 5-year deal, which should (in theory) give the club some major bargaining power.
How much should Liverpool demand for Coutinho?
* Coutinho: Hailed as 'amazing' by Joel Matip. Reportedly on £150k-a-week
