Redknapp insists: Liverpool 'need' to sign someone like 'brilliant' €42m Spurs star. Agree?

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has some major squad surgery to perform this summer, and according to ex-Red Jamie Redknapp, Liverpool need to sign a player who's similar to one of Spurs' top attackers.

In his column for the Daily Mail, Redknapp argued that Liverpool are 'too reliant' on Brazilian duo Coutinho and Firmino, and insisted:

"What Liverpool need next season is a squad player like Son Heung-min, who will nick a goal when the first-choice forwards are injured".

'Brilliant' Son is hardly a 'squad player' - he's made 39 appearances for Spurs this season, and with 26 goals/assists overall, he does far more than just 'nick a goal' every now and then (!)

Coutinho may not even be at the club next season, and if he leaves in the summer, the Reds will need to spend big money to replace him.

Redknapp is arguably right, though - Liverpool will need at least one more top-class attacking midfielder next season, preferably someone who is experienced at playing out wide *and* is also comfortable playing more centrally (if required).

This need will be even more acute if - as seems likely - Liverpool qualify for the Champions League. For example: Firmino, (according to Klopp) is knackered already, and he's played only 36 LFC games all season. With the increased European workload next season, the squad will need to be big enough to avoid that kind of player burnout.
