Liverpool defender recently Dejan Lovren confirmed that's he's close to signing a new contract, but what do Reds fans think about the possibility of an extended stay at Anfield.
In March, The Telegraph claimed:
"Liverpool have reopened contract talks with Dejan Lovren...and there is a commitment to ensure Lovren remains at Anfield beyond 2019".
When asked last week about the veracity of the report, Lovren told the Liverpool Echo:
“Progress [on the contract] is going on and I'd say that hopefully everything will be clear in the next month. I'm really happy here."
This certainly sounds like Lovren will soon reach an agreement, and it seems that Liverpool fans are happy to see him stay.
I conducted a poll last week asking fans if the Croatian deserves a new contract, and 73% of participants voted YES.
After a shaky start at Anfield, Lovren appears to have won over the fans; however, the fact still remains that both he and Matip are regularly injured. As Jamie Carragher noted this week:
"A big issue for Klopp...is that neither Dejan Lovren nor Joel Matip are robust enough to cope with the rigours of English football. If Liverpool want to progress, Klopp must act in the summer".
Lovren may sign a new deal, but if Klopp signs a physically robust defender this summer, he may quickly find himself as third choice next season.
* Lovren: Hailed by Gary Neville as 'absolutely outstanding'. Cost Liverpool £20m
