Liverpool are currently linked with a summer move for 'explosive' Athletic Bilbao attacker Inaki Williams, but what do Reds fans think about this potential transfer?
Last month, Spanish newspaper Marca claimed:
"Liverpool have been in touch with Bilbao to offer them the release clause [€50m] for Williams".
When asked a week ago if there's a 'possibility' that Liverpool will sign Williams this summer, Spanish pundit Guillem Balague told Sky Sports:
"He [Williams] was followed by Liverpool and has a €50m buyout clause. He is certainly looking abroad should he move".
Williams appears to have all the attributes required of a (potentially) top-class attacker (strong, fast, skillful etc), but rather surprisingly, the transfer doesn't appear to have widescale support amongst the Liverpool fanbase.
I recently conducted a poll asking fans if Liverpool should sign Williams this summer, and only 52% of participants voted YES.
This lack of enthusiasm probably stems from the ridiculously inflated transfer fee. As Balague noted:
"I'm not sure any team [will] pay that [€50m buyout clause] as he has not proved that valuation".
Spot on. Williams' creative return - especially this season - is average, and nowhere near worth €50m:
* Bilbao: 23 goals/15 assists (38) in 106 games (One every 198 mins).
* This season: 15 goals/assists 44 apps (Goal every 475 mins. G/A every One every 222 mins)
For €50m+, Klopp should be signing a player with a Suarez-esque type goals/assist record, and Williams is nowhere near that level of prolificity.
