Earlier this season, Reds midfielder Georgino Wijnaldum urged Jurgen Klopp to sign Spartak Moscow star Quincy Promes, and according to one of Promes' current team-mates, the Dutch attacker is keen to sign for Liverpool.
Liverpool were last linked with Promes in January, when the Liverpool Echo claimed:
"Liverpool are to make a £25m bid for Quincy Promes. Jurgen Klopp is interested in bringing [Promes] in to replace Sadio Mane, who has now departed for the AFCON".
Now, according to Spartak teammate Dmitri Kombarov:
"Promes would like to test himself at Liverpool or Barcelona; this is what he says occasionally."
Georgino Wijnaldum is a fan of Promes, and in January, he told reporters:
“Of course I want him [Promes] to come to Liverpool. He is a good player who can help the team and he knows how great Liverpool is”.
Soon after, Promes - who online bookmakers rate as a cert for the Premier League next season - confirmed:
“Yes, he [Wijnaldum] wants me at Liverpool, because he likes me as a player. I talked with him".
Spartak Owner Leonid Fedun recently insisted that he will not sell Promes for 'anything less than €40m-€50m', which might explain why Klopp did not pursue the deal. Is Promes worth such an insane fee? Spartak stats:
* Overall: 63 goals/assists in 84 apps (One every 115 mins).
* This Season: 19 goals/assists in 23 apps (One every 104 mins).
Recent reports suggest, however, that Liverpool will have up to £200m in transfer funds this summer, so should the Reds pursue Promes?
