Liverpool continue to be linked with 'explosive' Athletic Bilboa attacker Inaki Williams, and according to Spanisg pundit Guillem Balague, Klopp's interest is genuine.
On Tuesday, Spanish newspaper Marca claimed:
"Liverpool have been in touch with Bilbao to offer them the release clause [€50m] for Williams".
When asked yesterday if there's a 'possibility' that Liverpool will sign Williams this summer, Balague told Sky Sports:
"He [Williams] was followed by Liverpool and has a €50m buyout clause. He is in no rush, but he is certainly looking abroad should he move".
Williams - who is nicknamed 'La Pantera' (The Panther): appears to have all the attributes required of a (potentially) top-class attacker (strong, fast, skillful etc), but according to Balague:
"I'm not sure any team would be willing to pay that [€50m buyout clause] right now because he has not proved that valuation".
Spot on. Williams' creative return - especially this season - is average, and nowhere near worth €50m:
* Bilbao: 23 goals/15 assists (38) in 105 games (One every 198 mins).
* This season: 15 goals/assists 43 apps (One every 215 mins)
If Liverpool are genuinely willing to break the club's transfer record for a player with such average stats, then there's a serious problem somewhere.
For €50m+, Klopp should be signing a player with a Suarez-esque type goals/assist record; Williams is merely Lallana-esque, which is not good enough to take the team to the next level.
