With Emre Can's future still unresolved, Liverpool are reportedly looking at one of La Liga's breakout stars of the season as a potential replacement.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca today:
"Liverpool, Everton and Tottenham are all interested in signing Las Palmas midfielder Roque Mesa, who has a €30m release clause in his contract".
Some info about Mesa, described by ex-Las Palmas boss Paco Herrera as an 'excellent' player:
* 27-year old defensive midfielder. Contract expires: 2020
* Injury history: None. Mesa is incredibly robust, and has never been injured.
* Las Palmas: 15 goals/assists in 125 apps (one every 573 mins)
* Often compared to Sergio Busquets, and nicknamed the 'King of Tiki-Taka' due to the huge number of passes completed in every game.
* Oct 2016: On his role in the team: "I'm quite versatile. The coach emphasizes my position because I give the most balance in the middle of the field to the team. I have to protect the defence, and get the play going".
* 2015-16: Won the ball back more than any other player in La Liga.
€30m seems a little optimistic, and President Miguel Angel Ramirez confirmed last summer that Mesa can leave for a third of that price:
“Mesa has a release clause of €30m and we asked them [Sevilla] for €10m. They’ve shown that they don’t value the player like they say they do.”
Mesa is (arguably) the kind of player Klopp likes to go for: cheap, comparatively unknown; versatile etc. A steal at €10m this summer?
