Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly keen to sign Porto star Danilo Pereira this summer, but what to Reds fans think about this potential deal?
Last month, Portuguese newspaper A Bola claimed Jurgen Klopp dispatched Liverpool reps to watch Danilo in action, and it looks like Reds fans are in favour of the deal.
I conducted a poll last week asking fans if Liverpool should sign Danilo, and 72% of participants voted YES to the deal. Some info about Danilo:
* 25-year old defensive-midfielder, who can also play centre-back. Contract expires: 2022 (€60m buyout clause).
* Porto: 77 apps (11 goals/assists). 17 apps for the Portugal national team.
* Scouting Report (Strengths): "An imposing figure. Good in the air. Stamina and ball-winning skills. Quick and capable of covering plenty of ground".
* Scouting Report (Weaknesses): "Technical skills far from perfect. Not imaginative enough. Doesn't attempt enough through-balls. Distribution need to improve".
* Dec 2016: Maisfutebol editor Pedro Cunha's assessment: "He [Danilo] is one of the most exciting products of Portuguese football."
* Jan 2017: Porto boss Nuno Espirito Santo enthused: " Danilo's contract renewal is good for Porto. He has been an important player with excellent performances".
Danilo signed a new long-term deal just two months ago, so if Porto are indeed planning to sell, then the renewal is probably a strategy to maximise his transfer fee this summer.
As such, it seems highly unlikely that Klopp will spend €40m-€60m on a defensive-midfielder. Indeed, if Klopp's transfer history at Liverpool shows anything, it's that he's loathe to spend serious money on defensive players (Klavan, Matip, Caulker, Karius, Manninger: Combined cost = £9m).
