Anfield Alert: 56% of Liverpool fans want Klopp to bench 'excellent' £20m star today

On Friday, Reds legend Mark Lawrenson urged Jurgen Klopp to replace Ragnar Klavan with Dejan Lovren for Sunday's Premier League clash with Man City, but what do Liverpool fans think about the proposed change?

Speaking to the BBC, Lawro mused:

"Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is on his way back from injury, and although Klopp does not like to rush players, I would want him starting at Man City".

Reds fans don't appear to agree with Lawro's assessment. I conducted a poll this week asking fans if Lovren should replace Klavan for the Man City game, and 56% of participants voted NO.

Lovren returned to action this week in the U23s 2-0 victory over Chelsea, and as the following photo from Friday's training session shows, he is also back in full first-team training:

Lovren hasn't played a competitive game since January 31st, though, and given his increasing propensity for injuries, it arguably makes more sense to keep him on the bench for today's game.

I see no credible reason to dump Klavan, but I suspect that Klopp will gamble on Lovren because he knows that the Croatian will have 12 days of recovery time during the upcoming international break.

* Lovren: Hailed by Robbie Fowler as 'excellent'. Cost Liverpool £20m
