Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp faces increasingly stiff competition to sign one of breakout stars of the current season.
In January, the Echo claimed that Liverpool and Man Utd are 'tracking' £40m-rated Monaco star Tiemoue Bakayoko, and according to Sky Sports this week:
"Arsenal have joined the race for Bakayoko. A number of other Prem clubs are also interested".
Some info about Bakayoko:
* 22-year old Defensive-midfielder. Contract expires: 2019.
* Monaco: 75 apps in the last 2.5 seasons. Currently averages 30 games per season.
* Injuries: 27 games missed in the last two years (Hamstring and knee injuries).
* Scouting Report (Strengths): "Combative midfielder. Excels at breaking up play. Excellent tackling ability. Strong aerially. Energy, selflessness, and ferocity. A driving force for Monaco".
* Nov 2016: Hailed by Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim as a 'brilliant' player.
* Sep 2016: Bakayoko admitted: "My goal, ultimately, is to play in one of the top five clubs in the world".
* Dec 2016: Bakayoko told Eurosport: "The Premier League makes you dream, Monaco is a beautiful club".
Are Liverpool currently one of the 'top five clubs in the world'? Based on aggregate performance over the last five years, obviously not, but that may change over the next couple of years, and the first step towards entering the upper echelon is qualifying for the Champions League this season.
