Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has kept faith with Simon Mignolet for today's must-win clash with Spurs.
FULL TEAM: Mignolet, Clyne, Matip, Lucas, Milner, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Lallana, Mane, Coutinho, Firmino
SUBS: Karius, Moreno, Klavan, Can, Alexander-Arnold, Origi, Sturridge
SPURS: Lloris, Walker, Alderweireld, Dier, Davies, Dembele, Wanyama, Dele, Eriksen, Son, Kane.
* In his post-Hull press conference, Klopp insisted that Liverpool 'have to change immediately', but this clearly wasn't a reference to personnel changes. Klopp has made just one change for today's game, and that's Wijnaldum in for Can, which, admittedly, is fantastic news :-)
* Lallana missed 3 days of training this week with an achilles injury, but he still makes the starting XI. Why? It smacks of Klopp rushing a player back yet again before he's fully recovered, and it'll almost certainly mean another sub-par performance today.
* The only positive is that it looks like Lallana will be back in midfielder, and after making basically zero impact over the last ten games, he needs to step up and make a difference today.
* Klavan is also on the bench despite missing SIX days of training and, according to Klopp, 'losing weight' as a consequence of that. As such, why is he even on the bench?! Why not just promote an Academy player?
Liverpool have also suffered another major blow: Manchester United's victory means that the Reds are now down to sixth in the league, which piles on the pressure to win today's game. Unfortunately, Klopp's collection of milquetoasts have proven that they don't have the mental strength, fire, or leadership to handle extreme pressure, and if recent history is anything to go by, the team will probably fold like a cheap suit (again).
Of course, I hope I'm wrong. Probable formation:
------------- Mignolet
Clyne ---- Lucas - Matip ---- Milner
--- Lallana -- Hendo --- Wijnaldum
---- Mane --- Firmino -- Coutinho
^ Can: Recently hailed by James Milner as 'brilliant'. €38m-rated (CIES)
