Get Rid of Him: Carra tells Klopp to dump 'nervy' €23m Liverpool star and 'sign' a replacement

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has selected a predictable scapegoat for the Reds' awful 2-0 victory at Hull.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Carra barked:

"Simon Mignolet showed again today why Liverpool need to sign a goalkeeper. He is not decisive enough."

As regular visitors will confirm, I've repeatedly called for Liverpool to sell Mignolet since the 2014-15 season, and looking at the big picture, the need for a new top-class 'keeper remains an urgent priority. That said, this season, Mignolet has been consistently solid, especially after returning to replace Loris Karius. Yes, Mignolet made a mistake today, but this error shouldn't negate the good work he's done over the last couple of months.

For whatever reason, some fans seem to find it hard to reconcile this kind of thinking. It's perfectly possible to push for a player to be sold whilst simultaneously acknowledging good periods of form. Whether I like it or not, Mignolet is currently Liverpool's number one, so irrespective of my private view on the matter, it's only fair to judge him on his current/recent form.

The same applies to every player. I'm a huge critic of Emre Can, but if he ups his game and plays well for an extended period of time, I'll acknowledge that (whilst simultaneously hoping he is sold).

Despite his mistake today, Mignolet should keep his place in goal as dumping him for Karius would be amateur hour (IMO). The defence is already unsettled enough as it is, and a constant merry-go round of 'keepers is not the solution.
