Next Transfer? Legend claims Liverpool 'deal' for 'dangerous' €25m attacker 'could happen' soon

The Jese Rodriguez rumours refuse to die, and according to Reds legend Steve Nicol, a January transfer is a distinct possibility.

Last month, Las Palmas president Miguel Angel Ramirez confirmed that 'Liverpool want to sign Jese' and are 'ready to pay what he earns'. Then, this week, PSG boss Unai Emery hinted that a January transfer is a 'possibility'. When asked on Thursday if Liverpool will sign Jese, Nicol told ESPN:

"I think this transfer is possible. It depends on the money but this deal could happen. Klopp has already said that he is interested in added some more attacking wide players, so why not Jese?"

Jese is averaging just 26 minutes of pitch time per game this season, and with the recent signing of German international Julian Draxler, it's hard to see how that is likely to improve in the second half of the season.

Jese cost €25m just 5 months ago, and it seems unlikely that PSG will write off that fee so quickly. The most obvious solution is a loan deal, which suits both Liverpool and PSG. The Reds will get a quality player without having to pay through the nose, and PSG will retain their investment, whilst putting Jese in the shop window.

In my view, though, a loan deal is useless without an option to buy included in the contract. That way, there's a light at the end of the tunnel for Jese, and Liverpool have the possibility of benefiting from the deal for years to come (or cutting it short in the summer if it doesn't work out).

Worth a look?
