Liverpool outcast Mamadou Sakho is reportedly on the verge of leaving Anfield.
Last week, Liverpool Echo claimed:
"Liverpool have rejected a loan bid from Southampton for Mamadou Sakho. The Saints enquired, but the Reds are only willing to sanction a permanent deal. He will be allowed to leave if a suitable offer...close to £20m is received".
Now, according to an alleged exclusive by Le10 Sport this week:
"Mamadou Sakho has two offers: one from Southampton, and one from Spartak Moscow. Spartak's proposal is worth more financially, but Sakho wants to stay in the Premier League, and favours Southampton's offer".
Sakho may be considering accepting one of these two offers, but it's all moot unless Southampton accede to Liverpool's demand for a £20m transfer fee. Quite how Liverpool can expect a premium price for player who's been treated like a pariah (and hasn't played in nine months) is anyone's guess.
Southampton may need a new defender, but Klopp's marginalisation of Sakho arguably gives the Saints an advantage in negotiations. They know Liverpool want to get rid, and they'll also know that the Reds will hemorrhage £320k-a-month if Sakho stays on the books.
On a related note: If Sakho signs for Southampton, then at least one Liverpool player will make it to the League Cup final :-D
^ Apr 2016: Hailed by Gary Lineker as an 'exceptional defender'.
