Transfer to Liverpool? Klopp battling to sign 'brilliant' £40m midfield powerhouse. Huge offer expected from Man Utd

Liverpool are reportedly locked in a battle to sign one of Ligue One's rising midfield stars.

According to the Liverpool Echo:

* Liverpool are 'tracking' Monaco DM Tiemoue Bakayoko

* Man Utd are considering a 'huge' offer. Chelsea and Arsenal are also allegedly interested.

When asked in December about the possibility of January transfer, Bakayoko told Eurosport:

"The Premier League makes you dream but I have no reason to leave this winter. I don't want to leave. ASM are a beautiful club".

Some info about £40m-rated Bakayoko:

* 22-year old Defensive-midfielder. Contract expires: 2019.

* Monaco: 68 apps in the last 2.5 seasons. Currently averages 21 games per season.

* Injuries: 27 games missed in the last two years (Hamstring and knee injuries).

* Scouting Report (Strengths): "Combative midfielder. Excels at breaking up play. Excellent tackling ability. Strong aerially. Energy, selflessness, and ferocity of the midfielder are a driving force for Monaco".

* Nov 2016: Hailed by Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim as a 'brilliant' player.

* Sep 2016: Bakayoko admitted: "My goal, ultimately, is to play in one of the top five clubs in the world".

Are Liverpool currently one of the 'top five clubs in the world'? Based on aggregate performance over the last five years, probably not, but that may change over the next couple of years. £40m, though? No chance.
