Juventus are reportedly lining up a summer move for one of Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool signings.
According to Sky Sports:
"Juventus are eyeing a move for Liverpool midfielder Emre Can. Juve are ready to move for Can in the summer and are hopeful the [promise] of regular game-time could lure him to Turin".
Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato further claims:
"Can is not satisfied with how Jurgen Klopp is dealing with him during the ongoing season, being mainly a substitute for Henderson and Wijnaldum, and might be tempted to join Juve".
In my view, this is good news. Can is a legend in his own mind, and his hero complex regularly causes problems for Liverpool. Whether it's inaccurate long balls, stupid back heels, or being painfully slow in possession, Can is arguably the club's most frustrating player, and these things are exacerbated by a fatal dearth of game intelligence.
Can is not wholly to blame, though. Klopp insists on playing him as, ostensibly, an attacking midfielder (playing further up the field than Henderson), and that gives him delusions of grandeur. Can should (IMO) be deployed as a defensive-midfielder, with a remit to keep it simpl, recycle possession, and pass the ball off to players who are superior to him in the final third.
According to the CIES Football Observatory, Can is worth an unlikely €38m (!), and if a club comes in with such an inflated offer, it will be madness to reject it...right?
