Deal Close? Liverpool still fighting to sign 'impressive' €27m midfield beast; advanced talks held with CFC

Chelsea have reportedly moved ahead of Liverpool in the chase for one of Jurgen Klopp's alleged January transfer targets.

Last month, Sky Sports claimed that Liverpool were 'lining up a €27m January bid for Atlanta holding midfielder Franck Kessie, but according to an exclusive from Italian newspaper Tutto Mercato:

"Kessie is wanted by Liverpool, Juventus, and Everton, but negotiations with Chelsea over a summer move to Stamford Bridge are at an advanced stage".

Liverpool have allegedly scouted 'impressive' Kessie 'extensively' this season, and with Jordan Hendeson currently injured (and possibly facing a spell on the sidelines, a move for the 19-year old makes sense.

As usual, it will probably come down to money, and if Liverpool outbid Chelsea in the current window, there may be scope to gazump the Londoners, who appear to prefer a summer move.

Klopp reportedly has a €47m transfer kitty to play with during the current window, but it seems unlikely that he'll spend the bulk of that on a 19-year old, especially with Emre Can and Kevin Stewart in the squad.

Kessie recently admitted that he'd 'like to play for Manchester United', and confirmed that 'United has always been my favourite team', so to be honest, if he genuinely feels that way, then Chelsea are welcome to him.
