Anfield Update: 'Amazing' midfield sensation confirms he rejected 'Arsenal' to sign for 'Liverpool'

Liverpool starlet Ovie Ejaria has confirmed that he rejected one of England's biggest clubs to sign for Liverpool.

The prevailing view (as reported by the media) appears to be that Arsenal released Ejaria after 9 years in the club's youth system, but according to Ejaria, the reality is different. In an interview over the weekend, he insisted:

“I was offered a scholarship at Arsenal and I chose to turn it down. I had opportunities to go to different clubs. I had a look at Liverpool and it was the only club I went to, because I enjoyed it a lot".

In a previous article, I questioned why Arsenal - who have a great record of spotting talented young players - would reject Ejaria, but clearly, that question is now moot. The Gunners' loss will hopefully be Liverpool's gain.

Ejaria appears to be highly thought of at Anfield. According to Reds legend John Aldridge, Ejaria is 'technically excellent'; Neil Mellor recently insisted that he's 'amazing', and ex-U23s boss Michael Beale has hailed Ejaria for his 'unbelievable ability'.

Whether this is reality or gross hyperbole remains to be seen, but on the evidence so far, Ejaria appears to have the talent to become a regular member of the first-team squad. It has to be said, though: Ejaria didn't do much to distinguish himself against Plymouth, but to be fair, the same applies to everyone who started the game.
