Transfer to Liverpool? Nicol insists 'excellent' €30m Klopp target will be a 'great signing'...

Anfield legend Steve Nicol insists current Liverpool target Niklas Sule will be an ideal signing...for one of Liverpool's main title rivals.

Earlier this month, The Mirror claimed that Liverpool are still tracking Hoffenheim defender Niklas Sule, but when asked this week about the German defender, Nicol told ESPN:

"This would be a great signing [for Chelsea]. He [Sule] is playing at such high level, and he’s only going to get better".

According to Eurosport, Sule is on the outs at Hoffenheim:

"It is extremely unlikely that Hoffenheim will keep Sule this summer, and the chances are good that he'll leave the club for a record fee, just like Roberto Firmino".

In my view, Chelsea are welcome to Sule, whose attitude is a perfect match for the mercenary London club. When asked last week about his future, Sule made the following crass statement, which is dripping with entitlement and unearned arrogance:

“Milan and Inter? Going to one of them would be a step back, as for years they've been struggling to qualify for Europe. They've lost the magic that made them special. They had great players in the past but the clubs are in decline. I'd prefer the Premier League."

Sule's statement could similarly apply to Liverpool, who've also been consistently struggling to qualify for Europe, and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the €30m-rated Sule - who played alongside Firmino between 2013 and 2015 - privately thinks this way about the Reds, too.

* Dec 2015: Described as an excellent player by Hoffenheim boss Julian Nagelsmann.
