Klopp insists: 'Excellent' £100k-a-week Liverpool star is worth 'a lot more' than £29m. Agree?

Last year, Liverpool spent £29m on Roberto Firmino, and according Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, the Brazilian is massive transfer bargain.

Speaking to The Mirror on Thursday, Klopp hailed 'excellent' Firmino as a 'very important player' for Liverpool, and expressed surprise over the Reds' ability to seal the deal:

"When Liverpool signed him [Firmino] I thought: 'How could Liverpool do this?' They were not in their best moment and other clubs would have paid a lot more."

If other clubs were willing to pay 'a lot more' for Firmino, then why didn't thy step up and sign the Brazilian ahead of Liverpool? Money talks, and I doubt Hoffenheim or Firmino would've rejected more money from a different club.

Klopp also refuted the fan-perpetuated conspiracy theory that Liverpool consulted with him before signing Firmino (in anticipation of the German replacing Brendan Rodgers).

"I didn't speak to anyone to offer advice about Firmino. Nobody asked me about him but I thought was one of the best in the Bundesliga,"

Brendan Rodgers made some dud signings during his time at Anfield, but he deserves all the credit for signing Firmino, who has developed into one of the club's most consistent attacking players.

* Reportedly on £100k-a-week
