Anfield Update: After Coutinho blow, Klopp confirms €38m Liverpool star has injury 'pain' after training

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update on Reds attacker Roberto Firmino.

During his pre-match press conference today, Klopp told reporters:

"Roberto trained yesterday, but there’s still pain – it [the injury] is painful but not that serious. He is quite a tough guy, so he came through the session yesterday. We have to see how he reacts.”

Like Sturridge, Firmino recently sustained a calf injury, which forced him to miss Liverpool's midweek victory over Leeds.

If the injury is still 'painful' just two days before the game with Bournemouth, then the smart thing to do is keep Firmino on the sidelines again and give him the time he needs to recover properly.

Yes, it's possible to play through the pain barrier, (which Klopp appears to suggests is a genuine option), but given the club's current injury problems, it's arguably reckless to risk aggravating Firmino's injury.

Klopp's intensive, high-pressing game makes requires tip-top fitness, and clearly, Firmino is not at that stage yet.

In my view, the Brazilian should sit out Sunday's game.
