Prem legend Alan Shearer has heaped praise on one of Liverpool's breakout stars of the season.
Analysing the Reds' 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough on 'Match of the Day', Shearer singled out rejuvenated LFC midfielder Adam Lallana for praise. He raved:
"Jurgen Klopp has given Lallana more license to roam and get forward. He wants to be involved and he was absolutely brilliant tonight, as he has been for large parts of this season".
With two goals and one assist, Lallana deservedly picked up the 'Man of the Match' award, and although I'm not his greatest fan, I always give credit where it's due, and Lallana deserves credit for his impact on games this season.
That said, Lallana's performances only seem exceptional because of his underperformance over the last two years; the contrast makes it seem like he's playing above and beyond what's expected, but this is exactly how a highly paid 28-year old international in the prime of his career should be performing.
After a miserable 9 goals in 57 league games (including just 4 in 30 last season), Lallana is finally doing his job for Liverpool, and whilst that's great, he owes the club some major improvements after two years of inconsistency.
Can Lallana maintain his form for an entire season? That remains to be seen...
* Lallana: €28m-rated (CIES)
