Jurgen Klopp has dropped a massive hint that he'll enter the transfer market in January to cover the upcoming absence of 'electric' attacker Sadio Mane.
When asked during his pre-Watford press conference about the possibility of signing reinforcements in January, Klopp told reporters:
"When Sadio is away we will be without a winger. That's how it is. If we go to the semi-final of League Cup, January could be the busiest month of the year, so we need to be prepared for this".
With Origi, Ojo, Sturridge, Firmino, Coutinho, and Lallana in the squad, Liverpool appear to have some depth in attacking areas, but add in one or two injuries, and the situation could quickly take a turn for the worse.
It's heartening to see that Klopp is considering reinforcements, and hopefully, he'll approach the transfer window in the right way, i.e. with the intention of signing a quality player capable of being a first-team regular.
A year ago, Klopp took a piecemeal approach, and signed a sub-par defender (Caulker) who barely featured, and played out of position when he actually got some game time.
After a great start to the season, Liverpool have a strong foundation upon which to build, and it'll be a shame if the Reds' strong challenge for a Champions League place falters due to poor transfer planning and/or execution. The question is, who should Klopp target in January?
