Game over? One of Liverpool's current transfer targets has signed a new long-term contract.
In September, Mundo Deportivo claimed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp 'enquired about' signing PSG defender Presnel Kimpembe.
A month later, Le Parisien claimed:
"Kimpembe is being courted by Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool".
Well, it appears that Kimpembe has used the transfer speculation to secure a new transfer. According to RMC Sport:
* €15m-rated Kimpembe has signed a new 3-year deal worth £40k-week.
* Prior to the deal, Kimpembe was reportedly £1650 per week, which, comparatively, is a pittance.
Reacting to the deal, 2350% pay rise, the allegedly 'exceptional' Kimpembe told reporters:
"It's a huge step forward. I'm really happy. My call-up to the France squad and this extension are two dreams come true. But it's just the beginning. I need to keep working hard to achieve my objectives".
I doubt this new deal will change anything with Liverpool. If the club is genuinely interested, then it can (based on the average wage of LFC's players) easily match or exceed PSG's wage offer, and the new deal just means that PSG will be able to get a decent transfer fee.
Based on reports over the last few months, Klopp is seemingly determined to sign yet another centre-back, which surely means only one thing: the end is nigh for Mamadou Sakho (and Tiago Ilori).
