Better than Grujic? Ex-Red insists 'gifted' midfield sensation could be 'amazing' for Liverpool

Reds midfielder Ovie Ejaria continues to attract effusive praise, and Neil Mellor is the latest ex-Red to wax lyrical about the youngster's progress.

Last month, Liverpool legend John Aldridge enthused:

"I’ve watched [Ejaria] develop, and technically he’s excellent. You can see he’s been nurtured well. It’s great to see kids coming through from the Academy".

In an interview this week, Mellor claimed that Ejaria's 'development has been amazing', and praised him for having a 'fantastic pre-season'. He further raved:

“He [Ejaria] is technically gifted, comfortable on the ball and has a good engine. If he continues to work hard and avoid the inevitable distractions that come along, he can go far.”

Ejaria - also hailed by U23s boss Michael Beale for his 'unbelievable technical ability - played a central midfield role during pre-season, and against Derby, but he insists that his strengths lie elsewhere:

“I think I can play in any midfield position to be honest, but I think my strength is more attacking, playing further up the field".

Unfortunately for Ejaria, the competition in advanced, central attacking roles is fierce, but with Lallana moving into midfield this season, there's possibly a slightly improved chance that he may get an opportunity in that role (most probably in a cup game).

On Monday night, Ejaria grabbed a goal for England's U20 team, and the opportunity arose from a surge into the box, which is a trademark of all effective attacking midfielders:
