Anfield Update: Klopp confirms he's wanted to sign 'outstanding' €18m star for 'two years'

Jurgen Klopp continues to bat away criticism of Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius.

With Simon Mignolet exiled to the sidelines, Karius is currently Liverpool's number one, but the German is under fire after several shaky performances.

Klopp isn't having it, though, and when asked last night about Karius's performance against Man United, he noted:

"Of course he [Karius] has to improve and he can improve. If you want a goalkeeper who plays football then you have to take the risks".

Klopp also confirmed that he'd had his eye on Karius for years:

"He was outstanding but [at Mainz]. We watched him for a long time, especially in the last two years."

Meanwhile, Simon Mignolet remains upset by his relegation to the bench. Last week, he made a public plea (which fell on deaf ears) for Klopp to include him against Manchester United, and this week, he's sent a subtle message Liverpool's manager about his continued exclusion from the team.

Alongside a series of videos of himself in the gym, Mignolet posted the following comment:

"Some say bench warming, I say bench pressing".

I doubt Klopp will find this endearing, and it looks like Mignolet will have to get used to the idea that he is now Liverpool's number two.
