'Excellent': Spurs legend raves over €35m Liverpool star; hails the 'quality' of his 'passing'

What a victory! England annihilated international heavyweights Malta 2-0 tonight, and after witnessing the Three Lions' swashbuckling display of attacking genius, Spurs legend Chris Waddle singled out Jordan Henderson for special praise.

Co-commenting for the BBC, Waddle raved:

“People always talk about Jordan Henderson but today he was excellent, and the quality of his passing and crossing has been excellent".

In my view, no England player is deserving of individual praise. With the greatest respect, Malta are the international equivalent of a non-league side, and excellent passing and crossing is the bare minimum that should be expected against a team ranked 157th in the world (!)

On Friday, England legend Alan Shearer argued:

"It’s a game we will win. It’s just a matter of how many we win by. I’d expect us to win the game by four or five goals. It really is the best match to get off to a good start".

Dream on, Alan. Northern Ireland put four past San Marino tonight, but England laboured to a pathetic 2-0 win against one of the worst teams in English football. It's a bit of a national embarrassment really, just like the recent capitulation against Iceland.

It's good to see Henderson and Sturridge performing well, but they *should* be playing well against Malta. Individual praised would've been warranted if Henderson helped England batter Malta 6, 7, or 8 nil, but that didn't happen.

The only positive to come out of the game is that none of Liverpool's players appear to have picked up injuries.
