Liverpool are up to third place in the Premier League after another goal-fest at Anfield, and with Mane, Coutinho, Lallana, and Firmino regularly scoring/creating goals, the Reds seem well equipped this season to mount a genuine assault on the top four.
After the game, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp raved:
"The first half was brilliant. That was how football should be. We were really strong in possession today. But the most impressive thing today was the counter-pressing in the game. I think it was the best game in counter-pressing that we have played until now".
After such a difficult start, 13 points from 6 games (16 goals scored) is creditable, but there's no point getting carried away yet. For example, during the 2009-10 season, Liverpool started the season with 12 points from the first 6 league games (scoring 16 goals in the process), but ended up finishing 7th.
That said, in 2013-14, Liverpool also got 13 points from the first six league games, and ended up finishing...2nd. Food for thought. Anyway, here are all the goals from today's game:
