'New Varane' to Anfield? Liverpool chase Lens sensation who's 'inspired by' £26m Madrid star

Liverpool continue to be linked with new centre-backs, and the latest name to enter the fray is Lens sensation Jean-Kévin Duverne.

According to France Football today:

"According to our Sources, Duverne is wanted by Tottenham, Southampton, Newcastle, Sunderland, Liverpool and big Spanish clubs".

When asked this week about interest from Liverpool, Spurs et al, Duverne enthused:

"When you see big clubs interested in you, it's flattering. For now, I just want to give the best of myself".

Some info about Duverne, who is nicknamed the 'New Varane':

* 19-year old centre-back, who can also play as a right back. Recently signed a professional contract with Lens.

* 7 apps for the Lens first team (4 draws, 2 wins, 1 defeat).

* On his idols: "I am inspired by Sergio Ramos and Thiago Silva, but I hope to follow a similar career path to Rafael Varane".

* Aug 2016: Christopher Raymond (Duverne's former coach at U17 level) enthused: "He [Duverne] has something special. He is an imposing player, and displays serenity on the field".

* Sep 2016: Team-mate Anthony Scaramozzino noted: "He has great potential, but he must continue to progress as quickly as possible. He has the ability to improve, if he remains in this state of mind".

With 22-year old Victor Lindelof also (allegedly) on Liverpool's transfer radar, it appears that Jurgen Klopp is intent on bringing in a young centre-back, which almost certainly means it'll be curtains for Tiago Ilori.

* Ramos: £50m rated
