Redknapp insists: 'Special' €35m playmaker can replace 'Steven Gerrard' at Liverpool. Agree?

After his 'wonderful' strike against Chelsea, oft-criticised Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is back in the good graces of some fickle Liverpool fans, and Jamie Redknapp now insists that Hendo has the ability to eventually fill the void left by Reds legend Steven Gerrard.

On Friday, Jamie Carragher claimed it will take '20-30 years' to replace Gerrard, but according to Redknapp today:

"I’ve always liked Henderson. You need something special to [replace] Steven Gerrard, and if he [Henderson] can produce more wonder goals like this one, he will go a long way towards filling that role".

Henderson is a good, solid, hard-working professional, and at times, he can be an important player for Liverpool, but there's more to replacing Gerrard than just scoring 'wonder goals'.

That said, Henderson will probably never score another goal as good as the Chelsea strike for the rest of his career, whereas Gerrard regularly scored top-quality goals, and often did so at the most crucial moments.

In any event, as confirmed by Jurgen Klopp over the weekend, Henderson has a new role in the team as a 'number 6', and that may help him step out of Gerrard's shadow, and define himself in a different position.

* Henderson: €35m-rated (CIES).
