Anfield Update: Bad news for Liverpool as £87m Liverpool-trio miss training. Injury curse strikes again?

After Friday's triumph at Stamford Bridge, Liverpool face Derby County in the League Cup on Tuesday, and ahead of the game, it looks like the club's injury curse may have struck again.

According to the Liverpool Echo:

"Liverpool returned to training [today] but there was no sign of Roberto Firmino or Daniel Sturridge. Giorgino Wijnaldum was another player who wasn't pictured during the afternoon".

On Friday, Klopp subbed Sturridge off after 56 minutes, and instead of taking his place on the bench, he went straight down the tunnel, which usually means some form of treatment is required. I argued this point, but, as usual, in-denial LFC fans refused to countenance the possibility of injury, even though the truth was (arguably) obvious from Jurgen Klopp's comments.

Well, if Sturridge missed training, then that's further evidence of an injury, but I'm sure fans will come with some other outlandish reason for the England striker's no-show. As for Firmino and Wijnaldum: the club confirmed Firmino's injury prior to the Chelsea game, and Wijnaldum looked dead on his feet at the end of the Chelsea game, so it'll come as no surprise if he's succumbed to some kind of injury.

In any event, it shouldn't be an issue. Liverpool's squad is strong enough to cover the absence of Sturridge, Firmino, and Wijnaldum, and if they miss the Derby game, the likes of Grujic, Ojo, Origi, and/or Ings should get some much needed game time.

* Sturridge: £30m-rated. Firmino: £32m-rated. Wijnaldum: Cost £25m.
