Ian Rush insists: Klopp was totally wrong to dump 'amazing' £13m Liverpool star

Last month, Liverpool legend Phil Thompson bemoaned Jurgen Klopp's decision to sell Welsh midfielder Joe Allen, and it looks like he's not the only ex-Reds who's unhappy about the deal.

In July, Liverpool sold Allen to Stoke City for £13m, and after the deal, Thommo mused:

"I was really disappointed to see him [Allen] leave Liverpool. I thought it was his time.”

Anfield icon Ian Rush shares Thommo's view, and over the weekend, he told the Liverpool Echo:

“I was sad to see Joe go. He had a great Euros and he did what the [Liverpool] manager asked. [Klopp] wanted him to score more goals, he did that and got into more (scoring) positions".

Allen's creative output definitely improved last season, and he grabbed more goals assists last year than in his first three years at the club combined:

* 2015-16: 3 goals/4 assists (7) in 41 apps.

* 2012-15: 4 goals/2 assists (6) in 95 apps.

After four years at the club, though, Allen - hailed last month by Gareth Bale as 'amazing' - still didn't have a defined position, and he didn't do enough (IMO) to warrant a regular first-team place. As such, £13m for a player in the last year of his contract is arguably good business.
