Agent Confirms: Liverpool still want to sign £31k-a-week Bundesliga 'diamond'. Klopp wants deal done 'next year'

Over the summer, Hoffenheim defender Niklas Süle (who played alongside Roberto Firmino between 2013 and 2015), rejected offers from multiple clubs, including Liverpool, but his agent has now confirmed the Reds' interest, and insisted that a transfer in the future is still a possibility.

Earlier this week, German newspaper SportBild climed:

"Süle refused offers in the summer from Liverpool, Dortmund, Wolfsburg, Leverkusen, Rome, Napoli, and Milan".

When asked yesterday about interest from Liverpool and Chelsea, Sule's representative, Karl-Heinz Forster, told reporters:

"Yes, the interest was there. The English have made it clear that their interest next year is still valid.”

If Klopp ends up signing Sule, that will give Liverpool the following options at centre-back: Lovren, Klavan, Matip, Sakho, Lucas, Sule, Ilori. Can the Reds support another centre-back? Arguably yes:

* Lucas is not a dedicated centre-half, and his time at Anfield is drawing to a close anyway.

* Ilori rarely plays for the Reds, and will probably be sold on at some point in the near future.

* Liverpool tried to get rid of Sakho during the summer transfer window, and it's reasonable to assume that he doesn't feature in Klopp's long-term plans.

* That leave Lovren, Klavan, and Matip, and if Liverpool qualify for Europe this season, the club will need more than three centre-back options, especially given the regular injuries suffered in that position over the last few years.

Is Sule the answer? If Klopp has 'made it clear' that he wants to sign Sule 'next year', then the young German appears to be the chosen one, though Chelsea will obviously provide stiff competition.

* Dec 2015: Described as a diamond by Hoffenheim general manager Alexander Rosen. Reportedly on £31k-a-week.
