Late Transfer: Liverpool keen to sign 'very stupid' €15m outcast; Klopp desperate to sign a centre back

As starkly illustrated by the opening day victory over Arsenal, Liverpool are still prone to damaging defensive frailty, and with less than two weeks remaining of the current transfer window, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp reportedly has his sights set on a move for €15m-rated Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi.

Ex-Reds boss Brendan Rodgers reportedly scouted Martins back in 2013, and according to The Mirror:

"Bruno Martins Indi is on Liverpool's radar, and his versatility is attractive to [Liverpool] boss Jurgen Klopp".

The Express further claims:

"Jurgen Klopp is desperate for a centre back".

Some info about Martins Indi:

* 24-year old central defender (60% of games overall), who can also play as a left/right back (40% of games).

* Contract expires: 2018. Missed only 3 games through injury for his entire career (to date).

* Scouting Report (Strengths): "Commanding at the back. Ability in the air. Composure beyond his years. Ball retention is a favourable attribute of his game".

* Scouting Report (Weaknesses): "Rash and clumsy in the tackle at times [but] it's a kink that could easily be ironed out".

* Sep 2015: "After being sent off against Iceland in a Euro 2016 qualifier, Arjen Robben scathed: "He [Martins Indi] really let his team-mates down and I think that's a big shame. [He] was very stupid".

* Aug 2016: Left out of Porto's Champions League squad, and banished to train with the club's B team.

* Aug 2016: SadoDesporto claimed that Martins is 'desperate' to join former boss Ronaldo Koeman at Everton.

Hmmm. If Klopp sees Martins as a potential replacement for Alberto Moreno, then his propensity for 'rash and clumsy' tackles (which got him sent off in the aforementioned game with Iceland) is a concern. Moreno is arguably defined by his reckless challenges, and the last thing Liverpool need is another defender with the same weakness.

Worth a bid?
