Teenage full-backs seem to be all the rage at Liverpool right now, and after being linked with 19-year old Ben Chilwell, and 16-year old Ryan Sessegnon, the Reds are seemingly on the verge of signing a player who's even more untested that the aforementioned duo.
According to the Liverpool Echo:
"Liverpool are set to sign former Barcelona defender Juanma following a successful trial...subject to a medical. He is not considered a first-team option".
The natural progression continues!
* Chilwell: 3 senior games to his name (No Prem experience).
* Sessegnon: 1 senior game to his name (No Prem experience).
* Juanma: 0 senior games (No Prem or La Liga experience).
Some info about the allegedly 'fantastic' Juanma:
* Left-back, who can also play as a centre-back.
* 17 apps for Barcelona's U19s (six of those as captain), with 90% of games played as a centre-back. 6 games for Spain's U17 team.
* Jul 2016: Liverpool U21 boss Michael Beale's assessment: “Juanma [is] a very good player. He’s very versatile and can play in different positions. He reminds me.. of a Pablo Zabaleta-type player”.
Great - another 'versatile' player who operate in 'different positions'. Klopp obsession with multi-functional players seems to be infecting the academy too, and it looks like the manager's policy of signing 'Jack of all Trades' players also extends to the youth set-up.
Bottom line: three days till the new season kicks off, and Liverpool still have no competition and/or replacement for Alberto Moreno. This will inevitably come back to haunt the Reds this season.
