Contact Made: Liverpool now free to sign £15m attacking sensation who 'idolises Ronaldo'

Last season, Liverpool were linked with a January move for Ajax star Anwar El Ghazi, and new reports today suggest that the Reds are still interested in signing the exciting attacker.

In January, The Telegraph reported:

"Anwar El Ghazi has attracted interest from Man Utd, and AC Milan. Jurgen Klopp is also keen to sign the Dutchman".

According to TalkSport today:

"Ajax have told Liverpool to [pay] £15m to land Anwar El Ghazi. Liverpool [are] keen on El Ghazi after scouting him, but the funds depend on Markovic [leaving]".

Some info about 21-year old El Ghazi:

* 6'2 right-winger, who can also play as a striker. Current contract expires: 2019

* Ajax: 34 goals/assists in 82 games (One every 163 mins)

* Last season: 14 goals/assists in 38 games (One every 177 mins)

* 2015: Named Ajax 'Talent of the Year'.

* Ronaldo de Boer's assessment: assessment: "He [El Ghazi] idolises Ronaldo and is trying to copy him. He is similar in height and style".

* De Boer on where El Ghazi needs to improve: "He is too weak in the legs. Anwar likes to emulate Ronaldo, but instead of imitating tricks, he should focus on his body".

* Jaap Stam's view: "He [El Ghazi] has the talent and skills to become a good player, but he needs to concentrate on and keep the level up."

With Coutinho, Firmino, Mane, Ojo, and, yes, even Adam Lallana, Liverpool have some good attacking midfield options this season, but if Markovic leaves (a good idea), then a replacement will be needed, and the club could do a lot worse than El Ghazi.

Henderson aside, there are no tall, attacking midfielders at Anfield. Liverpool need to mix it up a bit, and a tall player with the attributes of El Ghazi (or Yarmolenko, another 6'2 attacker) will bring much-needed variety to the squad's attacking options. Worth a bid, or are the Reds covered in the attacking third?
