Agent Confirms: 'Liverpool' have made massve '€40m' offer for 'superb' international attacker. Overpriced?

Liverpool are reportedly trying to sign 'superb' Sporting Lisbon attacker Joao Mario, and after his father's revealing comments this earlier this week, Mario's Agent has now confirmed that the Reds have submitted an official offer.

On Monday, Mario's father told Diario de Noticias:

"I was informed that the club said no to €40m from Liverpool".

It appears that Mario Sr.'s information is correct. When asked today about the transfer, Mario's agent, Kia Joorabchian, told Portuguese newspaper Record:

"Liverpool [offered] between €35m (£29.4m) and €40m (£33.7m) plus bonuses. Sporting refused all offers, and they will not be discussing a new sale".

All I can say is...thank God for that! In my view, Mario is Adam Lallana MK2: Lots of industry, stamina, and effort, but very little end product.

Take Euro 2016, for example: Mario - an attacking midfielder - contributed a measly 1 assist/0 goals in 7 games, and this creative paucity is one of the reasons Portugal won just ONE game (in open play) en-route to the final.

Mario *looks* dangerous, but flatters to deceive when it comes to making a game-changing impact. His stats for Sporting are similarly average:

* 14 goals/17 assists 92 apps (G every 486 mins. G/A every 219 mins).

Bullet dodged?
