Carra: Liverpool tried to sign 'world-class' €55m playmaker who exchanged 'texts' with Gerrard

Last season, Reds legend Steven Gerrard outlined how he tried to convince Toni Kroos to sign for Liverpool, and former team-mate Jamie Carragher has also now confirmed that Liverpool actively tried to sign the German international.

Liverpool were linked with Kroos (who's now worth €55m according to CIES Football Observatory) throughout 2014, and in recent autobiography, Gerrard noted:

"Brendan asked me to talk Kroos into signing for Liverpool. We had a nice little exchange of texts [but] he said he'd soon sign for Real Madrid".

Liverpool qualified for the Champions League in 2014, but that wasn't enough to convince Kroos to consider Anfield, and in his column for the Daily Mail this week, Carra confirmed that:

"Man Utd dithered when they had a chance to sign Kroos, who also rejected interest from Liverpool".

Signing 'world-class' a players like Kroos remains a pipe dream for Liverpool. with Gerrard and Suarez gone, Liverpool have no world-renowned stars at the club, and I doubt the cream of Europe are jumping at the chance to play alongside Lovren, Lallana, Henderson, and Milner.

Klopp is allegedly a big draw for players, but even he doesn't have the pull to compensate for Liverpool's Euro absence next season.

It's still hard to comprehend how Adam Lallana cost more than Kroos. It just doesn't compute...
