Deal Close: Liverpool agree transfer for 'outstanding' £75k-a-week international. Boss confirms 'transfer' is imminent

Last month, Martin Skrtel's Agent insisted that the 'outstanding' Reds defender 'will leave Liverpool's this summer, and new developments this week suggest that Skrtel's Anfield exit appears to be imminent.

When asked on Tuesday about possible summer transfers, Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim told AMK Spor:

"The transfers for [Gregory] Van der Wiel and [Martin] Skrtel are almost done.”

The Liverpool Echo further adds:

"Liverpool have reached an agreement with [Fenerbahce]. Skrtel is likely to be confirmed as a Fenerbahce player this week"

I'm a big fan of Skrtel and his full-blooded, passionate approach to the game, but with no European football, and a drastically reduced fixture schedule, the team simply cannot support four senior international centre-backs.

Joel Matip is a nailed-on starter, and Klopp appears to favour both Lovren and Sakho, which means there's no room for Skrtel, who will baulk at being a back-up player (and rightly so - he's an international captain).

Additionally, constantly rotating defenders is not conducive to defensive stability, so Jurgen Klopp will probably stick with his core defensive partnership (especially in the league), and that means further frustration for Skrtel (and others on the sidelines).

On a related note: Skrtel did *not* call Klopp a 'di$%head'. This is a spurious myth perpetuated by those who can't be bothered to check the facts and/or deliberately misrepresent the truth in their zeal to create a sensationalised headline. An example from a so-called LFC fan site:

* 'Shocking: Liverpool ace calls Jurgen Klopp a ‘D*ckhead’ on Instragram'.

Pathetic. The actual truth is that Skrtel's friend used the label in relation to Klopp. Skrtel responded, but he did not directly insult Klopp, which is what all the fake headlines proclaim.
