Transfer Update: After Gotze fail, Agent confirms 'Liverpool move' for 'amazing' €15m playmaker is 'at risk'

Liverpool's failure to qualify for Europe appears to be having a negative impact on the club's ability to secure its top transfer targets. Over the weekend, Mario Gotze's distanced himself from a move to Anfield, and it now appears that the allegedly 'amazing' Udinese star Piotr Zielinski is also cooling on the idea of playing for Liverpool.

On May 5th, Gazetta Dello Sport's Nicolo Schira claimed Liverpool submitted a €15m offer for Zielinski.

Soon after, Andrzej Twarowski - presenter of League Extra, a football show on Canal + Poland - insisted that the Reds had reached an agreement to sign Zielinski.

Well, one Euro capitulation later, and Zielinksi - who recently raved about playing alongside Philippe Coutinho - is seemingly getting cold feet.

When asked this week for an update on the prospective transfer, Zielinski's agent told ForzaRoma:

“The Liverpool move is at risk. At the moment he [Zielinski] is totally concentrated on the Euros.”

It's hard to blame Zielinski for having second thoughts. Klopp's alleged transfer pull aside, Liverpool finished 8th in the league this season, which is a pitiful result, and will not endear the club to ambitious players who want to compete against Europe's best players.

I'm not that fussed, though. With 5 goals/6 assists in 36 games this season (goal every 625 mins. G/A every 284 mins), Zielinski's creative output is merely average, and I fail to see how he is an upgrade on Liverpool's current attacking midfielders.
