€35m MegaDeal? After Sevilla fiasco, Liverpool determined to sign world's most 'exciting player'

Last month, Italian newspaper Tuttosport claimed that PSG star Javier Pastore is 'ready to sign for Liverpool' this summer, and new reports suggest that the €35m-rated Argentine attacker is high on Jurgen Klopp's transfer wish-list.

Pastore was also linked with Liverpool in the summer of 2015, and according to TMW this week:

"Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is determined to sign Javier Matias Pastore (26) from French club, who is expected to command a €7m-a year salary".

Some info about Pastore:

* 26-year old attacking midfielder, who can also play on the left. Current contract expires: 2019.

* PSG: 37 goals/43 assists (80) in 2013 games (Goal every 380 mins. G/A every 175 mins)

* This season: 7 goals/assists in 24 games (One every 151 minutes).

* Seven separate injuries this season (Groin, adductor, shinbone, 3x Calf - 29 games missed). Five calf injuries in the last 18 months.

* Apr 2015: Man Utd legend Eric Cantona raved: "The best player in the world, the most exciting player in the world, is Pastore. He's got something special."

Cantona is entitled to his opinion, but there is no objective evidence to back up his claim that Pastore is the 'best player in the world'. Indeed, Pastore himself has refuted Cantona's claim:

"I thank him [Cantona] for his praise [but] I don't share his view. I don't compare myself with the best. Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are incredible players".

Pastore's goals/assists ratio at PSG is merely average, and I'd rather see the Reds spend less players whose creative stats are far superior (Andriy Yarmolenko, for example). Additionally, Pastore's recent injury history suggests that he's becoming increasingly injury prone, which is the last thing Liverpool need.

It's all probably moot now, anyway. With no European football next season, it's highly unlikely that Liverpool - even with Klopp at the helm - will be able attract high profile players like Pastore, or perhaps even Mario Gotze.
