After an excellent away performance tonight against Dortmund tonight, Liverpool have one foot in the quarter-finals of the Europa League, and Reds legend Steve McManaman has praised one the team's unsung heroes for playing an integral part in the result.
Analysing the game for BT Sport^, Macca enthused:
"Joe Allen did really well. He was excellent, and very disciplined in the way he played. He did an admirable job".
£20m-rated Allen replaced Hendo at half-time, and although Liverpool conceded a goal just 3 minutes into the second half, the Welsh midfielder played a big part in steadying the ship in the aftermath of the goal.
Allen also achieved 95% passing accuracy, which is the best in the team on the night (sorry all those who chose Sakho for the Prediction League!)
With Henderson injured again, Allen now has a chance to take his place for the next few games, and given Hendo's dual injury issues (heel, and now knee), there's a big chance that Allen will start the return match with Dortmund at Anfield.
As for Man of the Match: One glaring lapse aside (for Dortmund's goal), Sakho and Lovren had another good game together, but my vote goes to Mats Hummels, who showed a superb range of passing all game, and also kept it solid at the back.
Hummels is regularly linked with a move to Anfield, and the speculation will inevitably begin again after these two games against Liverpool.
