Injury Nightmare: 'Brilliant' £10m Liverpool star out for the season; Great news for £28m-duo?

On Thursday, 'brilliant' Liverpool midfielder Emre Can left Anfield on crutches after sustaining an ankle injury during Liverpool's 4-3 victory over Borussia Dortmund, and unfortunately for the German, it looks like his season is over.

According to the official Liverpool FC website:

"Emre Can is set to be out of action for four to six weeks due to ruptured ankle ligaments. A return before the end of the season has not been ruled out for the 22-year-old, who has made 46 appearances so far in 2015-16".

A 'return before the end of the season'? That's wishful thinking in the extreme, especially since the domestic season ends in less than a month.

If Liverpool make it to the Europa League final, the game is scheduled for May 18th, which is a little over a month from now, so even if Can makes a speedy recover, he won't be match-fit enough to play a significant role in the game.

As the old saying goes, though: When one door closes, another door opens, and with Can of and Henderson both out for the season, that surely means Joe Allen will now get a run in the team?

Lucas and Kevin Stewart are also options, but after his recent run impressive form, Allen arguably deserves a sustained run in the team.
