Rush warns: 'Frustrated' £20m Liverpool star is 'not happy' and may quit Anfield soon

In early January, Joe Allen confirmed that contract talks with Liverpool had hit the skids, and speculation linking with an Anfield exit has intensified this month, with Watford the latest club reportedly interested in a summer deal for the £20m-rated Welsh international.

According to The Guardian:

"Watford are considering a summer move for Joe Allen. There have been no talks over a new deal since Jürgen Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers".

Allen has 18 months left on his contract, but in a recent interview, he admitted:

“That [contract talks] has gone very quiet. I want to play more, so it’s about giving my best, which is always what I do.”

Allen - dubiously described last night as 'irreplaceable' by Wales boss Chris Coleman - is (arguably) one of Liverpool's most improved players this year, but Reds legend Ian Rush is worried that his countryman may decide to quit Anfield this summer. This week, he told the Wales Online:

"Joe’s frustrated by not being in the team. He is not happy [sitting on the bench], and if he’s not happy then he might well want to move on".

Allen is also linked with a return to Swansea City, and according to former team-mate Leon Britton:

"I know he misses Swansea and home so it'll be interesting to see what happens because I know his contract's running out."

Klopp recently claimed that Allen is a 'first-teamer', but with Grujic arriving, and one or two more midfielders on the radar, it's hard to see where he'll fit in next season. Allen is an excellent squad player to have, but he is eminently expendable, and if Liverpool can get £15m+ this summer, then the club should take it.

As for where he'll end up - former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is reportedly heading back to Swansea this summer, so a reunion with his old boss seems like an obvious - and sensible - solution.
