Anfield Blow: 'Amazing' £40m Liverpool star suffers late injury; out of Southampton game

Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino has been in stellar form this year, and after 12 goals/assists in the last 14 games, it looks like the Brazilian's momentum is about to come to a shuddering halt.

According to a statement today on the website of the Brazilian FA:

"The striker Jonas, of Benfica, is summoned for the matches against Uruguay (March 25) and Paraguay (March 29). Jonas is listed in place of Roberto Firmino.”

The Liverpool Echo adds:

"At this stage, the injury does not seem to be serious with suggestions it is down to bruising".

If Firmino - described this week as 'amazing' by Coutinho - has pulled out of games that take place a week from now, then it almost certainly means he'll be out of Sunday's trip to Southampton.

Liverpool's squad is strong enough to cope with €40m-rated Firmino's absence, though, and with Lallana, and Coutinho in good form - plus Sturridge in the team - the Brazilian's loss shouldn't be a huge issue.

Meanwhile, Alberto Moreno is due to have another scan to assess his current injury, and according to Jurgen Klopp:

"We'll do another scan, then see if it's more clear. If there's nothing visible, maybe then we'll try to use him."

If Moreno misses the next few games, and Flanagan performs well in his absence, then the Spaniard may struggle to get his place back.
