Anfield-bound? Liverpool reps fly out to watch 'excellent' €8m star. LFC favourites to sign

Liverpool continue to be linked with a summer move for Real Betis goalkeeper Antonio Adan, and new reports suggest that the Reds are actively monitoring the ex-Real Madrid 'stopper.

Last week, Spanish newspaper AS claimed that:

* Liverpool are tracking Adan, along with a number of other Premier League clubs.

* The Reds are allegedly 'leading the race' for Adan's signature.

According to Marca today:

* Liverpool sent representatives to watch Adan in action during Real Betis's recent La Liga match with Sporting Gijon.

* Sunderland and Southampton also had scouts at the game, which ended 1-1.

When asked last week about Liverpool's interest, Betis Technical Secretary Alexis Trujillo admitted:

"Adan's €8m clause makes him a very attractive because he is an excellent goalkeeper. I am concerned about it and I wish he had a higher clause".

€8m is eminently affordable, but Adam is not convinced that any club will pay that fee. In a recent interview with Marca, he noted:

"It'll be difficult to have an offer of €8m for me. Clubs do not pay big money for goalkeepers, and I doubt they'll pay that for me".

Clearly, Adan has low self-belief, and Trujillo confirmed that this week, when he told reporters:

"He [Adan] has terrible confidence in himself but he gives calmness to the rest of the team because he is enjoying a great moment."

Why are Liverpool even interested in this guy? Signing a 'keeper with 'terrible confidence' seems counter-intuitive, and the Reds need a strong, confident, commanding goalkeeper, not another shrinking violet.

Additionally, Adan's minutes-per-goal conceded ratio is worse than Mignolet's, so he's clearly not the solution. The Reds need an upgrade on the Belgian, and Adan has all the hallmarks of yet another back-up goalkeeper.
