Aldo raves: 'Fantastic' £65k-a-week star is an 'absolute diamond' of a footballer. Sign new contract?

Kolo Toure remains a popular figure at Anfield, and on Sunday, the Liverpool defender - recently described as a 'great man - by Reds legend Jamie Carragher - scored his first league goal in five years. It's been a long time coming, and according to LFC hero John Aldridge, the goal capped a fine season (so far) for the Ivorian.

In his column for the Liverpool Echo, Aldo enthused:

"[Toure] is an absolute diamond of a fella, a true gentleman who is loved and respected by everyone. Look at how the fans of Arsenal and Manchester City treat him when he goes back there; he's a top pro and has been a fantastic player too".

Like all defenders, Toure - who reportedly earns £65k-a-week - will make the odd mistake, but unlike with Lovren and Sakho, I never feel uneasy when he's in the team.

Toure is simply a solid, dependable, no-nonsense centre-back, who gets the job done with the minimum of fuss, and when he's fully fit, he's a real asset to the team.

The question is, will Liverpool hand him a new contract? Toure's current deal expires at the end of the season, and with Joel Matip arriving in the summer (and the potential rise of Tiago Ilori), is there room for him in the squad?

I'd argue yes. It's possible that one of either Sakho or Lovren may leave this summer, and Toure's experience is vital for the squad, both on and off the field.

Has Toure done enough to earn a new deal?
