In May 2015, Academy goalkeeper Lawrence Vigoroux signed a new two year contract with Liverpool, but after the return of Danny Ward, the arrival of youngster Kamil Grabara, and the inevitable signing of another 'keeper in the near future, the 21-year old 'stopper appears to be surplus to requirements at Anfield. Vigoroux is currently on-loan at Swindon Tow, and new reports today suggest that Jurgen Klopp is 'willing to let him leave'.
That's good news for Swindon as the club is keen on signing Vigoroux permanently.
Speaking to BBC Wiltshire on Friday, Swindon chairman Lee Power admitted that he 'really likes Lawrence', and confirmed that The Robins are actively trying to sign Vigoroux:
"We've spoken to Liverpool. They wouldn't sell, but we are going have another crack at him in the window. We are trying to crowbar the door open at the moment as we speak."
Power also compared the 'wildcard' goalkeeper to one of Liverpool's greatest ever goalkeepers:
"He reminds me a little bit of Bruce Grobbelaar. It might not be great sometimes but other times he takes your breath away".
In my view, Vigoroux should quit Liverpool and stay at Swindon.
As noted many times in the past, no goalkeeper has ever made it through the academy to become a regular first-teamer, so there's absolutely no point in wasting time on pipe dreams.
Vigoroux is a regular starter at Swindon, and that will never happen at Liverpool, who - historically - recruit first-team 'keepers from outside the club.
I'm sure it's tough to leave Liverpool, but the sad reality is that academy goalkeeper = total dead end at Anfield.
Run, Lawrence, run!
