Right now, Lovren-Skrtel is Rodgers' preferred central defensive partnership. Liverpool fans are not happy with Lovren starting over Sakho, though, and prevailing view is emphatic: dump Lovren and play Sakho.
The story so far:
* July 2015: La Lazio Siamo Noi claimed that Sakho - who cost Liverpool £18m - 'asked his agents' to find him a new club.
* Aug 3: An alleged CalcioMercato exclusive claimed that Sakho is one of Roma's top transfer targets.
* Aug 8 : The Daily Express reported that Liverpool are 'in talks' with Roma over a possible deal.
* Aug 17: French newspaper L'Equipe claimed that Sakho is 'questioning' his future, and he's 'interested' in signing for Roma.
* Aug 17: Sky Sports reported: "Liverpool have rejected approaches from Roma and Bayer Leverkusen for Mamadou Sakho"
I conducted a poll this week asking who should be Skrtel's regular partner in defence. The results:
Clearly, despite his solid performances against Stoke and Bournemouth, Liverpool fans have little faith in Lovren, but there's practically zero chance of Rodgers dumping him after two clean sheets. Indeed, according to The Guardian:
"Before the start of the campaign, Rodgers informed [Lovren] that he would be first choice".
