New Transfer: Liverpool make official offer for record-breaking £15m 'marvel' with 98 goals/assists in 183 games

With a deal for Christian Benteke looking increasingly unlikely, Liverpool's interest in Zenit St. Petersburg striker Salomon Rondon is intensifying, and it appears that the Reds are actively trying to seal a deal.

According to CalcioNews24 on Monday:

* 25-year old Rondon 'has offers from Wolfsburg and Liverpool'

* Roma are also interested in signing the Venezuelan international.

Liverpool were last linked with Rondon in June, when the Liverpool Echo claimed:

"Liverpool have turned their attention to Salomon Rondon as they weigh up alternatives to Christian Benteke. The 25-year old would cost around £15million.

Some info about 25-year old Rondon:

* 2012: Became the most expensive Venezuelan footballer in history when he signed for Rubin Khazan in a €10m deal.

* 2013: Broke the record for most goals by a Venezuelan player in La Liga.

* 2014: Cost Zenit St. Petersburg £15.8m.

* Malaga: 27 goals/7 assists in 72 apps (Goal/assist every 2 games)

* Rubin: 25 goals/3 assists in 56 apps (Goal/assist every 2 games)

* Zenit: 28 goals/8 assists in 55 apps (Goal/assist every 1.5 games)

* Totals: 80 goals/18 assists (98) 183 apps (Goal/assist every 1.8 games)

* Sergio Asenjo's assessment (Rondon's team-mate at Malaga): “I knew Rondon in Malaga. He is a physical marvel, who is very effective in front of the goal and plays well between the centre-backs".

In some ways, Asenjo is right: Rondon has suffered only one injury in the last five years (fractured metatarsal), which kept him out for only two months. Since that time, he's been injury-free, and strong, robust players are a major priority for Liverpool.

On the goalscoring front - Rondon's record over the years is middling (goal every 2.2 games), but at Zenit, the Venezuelan has increased his overall creative average to one goal/assist every 1.5 games, which is heartening.

Premier League 'beast' Christian Benteke has a £32m release clause in his contract, and it's a gamble to spend such an insane amount of money on a striker with several injuries in the recent past.

At £15m, Rondon is clearly better value than Benteke, and in this case, Liverpool are arguably right to look at alternative, cheaper options.

Worth a bid on that basis?

  1. He reminds me of Stan Collymore, very physical with a good touch and scoring record, get him and Kevin Volland for the price of Benteke!!!.

  2. Like I said you get Reus you can get anybody in front of him. Better alternative!!

Benteke - Injury prone? He's had one injury, all be it a serious one. Having said that I don't think Benteke and Liverpool are made for each other.... And I think that if Sterling as a untested youngster is worth 49M then Benteke in comparison must be worth about 80M!!

  4. Personally I'm not sold on Rondon, I didnt rate him when he was at Malaga (that's when I was watching a whole lot of la liga) and I haven't really seen him light it up since. If we didnt have so many strikers, I'd say get him as a first backup, along with a world class starter, but that would involve loaning or sellin Ings/Origi, and I dont think that would be best for their development. Not sure if he's got the goods to be our number 1 striker with Studge injured, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

  5. Mates mates mates , we look sooo light in almost all the departments on the pitch from manager to keeper to midfielders to strikers ...If you read what Raheem Sterling said after his move to city."having a crust of world class players around him who can bring out the best in him and and challenge for major trophies" when we have a crust of good and experienced players it automatically brings out the best in a lot of these fellas .look at cleverly at man u or medel at Chile .firminio is not bad business but please at 29 mill .We seem not to go for the real deal we need a striker who can score goals and we can't gamble this time .look at the money we wasted on markovic, aspas , assaidi , baloteli and lambert. I think I'd be a safer bet to go for Pedro who has excelled in a fast paced league asap and stay with benteke who has proven himself in the epl and has a work rate far better than carol.

  6. LFC have 6 strikers on their books ,add another1 , what do you with all these chaps , it seems as if LFC cannot sell Borini or Balotelli so will have to give them away ,NOT sure what the plans for Lambert are taking him on tour ?

  7. His record is very good.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Is Benteke twice the player Rondon is???.....................not a chance.

  9. AGREE mate ..We have the Southampton look .We excel in a few games and den totally fall asleep in others ...end up mid table .go to the transfer market , overspend ..and back to square one. Except soto doesn't overspend like we do.i wonder the kind of players soto will bring in if they had half our budget.ever since we lost our boyfriend Suarez ....We've been dating anyone ...just anyone.what a waste.

  10. Actually I'd happily pay 32m for Benteke if he wasn't that injury prone.. Last season's sturridge's injuries left a bad taste in my mouth..

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yet another target man but Rondon would be less of a risk than the asking price for Benteke.

    ReplyDelete
  12. That's the only thing steering me towards Rondon. If it's him or Benteke, I'd go Rondon simply because it will leave more funds for our other problem areas. If we signed Benteke, it doesnt leave much (as far as we know) of the budget to get a LB, DM and possibly another winger.

  13. Nobody else running this story so likely to be wrong BUT quite a few reckon J Sinclair wants out of Liverpool - WHY ?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Some of the comments here suggest LFC have an endless supply of money like City and Chelsea - WE HAVE NOT

    ReplyDelete
  15. After watching Origi play last night I don't recon we need Benteke (still like him) he looked raw and very direct so could prove a menace to a lot of defenders, and what a powerful header so why not go for Rondo ?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Links to Reus and Pedro are unrealistic and although they are excellent players they don't play in the areas we need at the moment, so unless we are going to play without a striker or run with the 2 and a half we have at the moment and overload with wide and attacking midfielders we need a striker or we stay with 1 out of Lambert, Borini or Balotelli as 4th choice.

    ReplyDelete
  17. You can see Rondon needs supply of the ball. He does not create his own chances, he waits for the ball. Benteke the same. Why we are after such players is just beyond me. If we do not sign a striker who can get us 20+ this coming season then we may as well kiss it goodbye.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think that it is because he didn't go on tour with them ?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Depends on what you see as 'it' when you say 'kissing it goodbye'. I think if we were to start the season as we are now, with the players we have signed and without the ones we've sold, we would finish the season in a higher position. Take last season, take away Gerrard and Sterling's goals and add in (and I'm speaking very conservatively, based on their history) 5 goals for Milner, 8-10 for Ings (with decent playing time), maybe 4-5 for Origi, another 10-15 for Firmino, and we are doing much better. Add to that Coutinho and Hendo continuing their development, as well as Ibe and (hopefully) Marko, we could be top 6 if not top 4 with our current squad.
I view anything above what we finished last season as a win. I'm not accepting mediocrity or whatever little catchphrase is being bandied about at the moment, I just think it will take a season or two to find our rhythm and really develop a core of players, like we did under Rafa with Skrtel&Agger, Xabi, Masch & Stevie, and Torres up front. If we can get that kind of thing happening maybe with Sakho&Skrtel(and Lovren if he steps up), Hendo, Coutinho, Can & Firmino with whoever up front, then we'll have a team that can develop together over the next few seasons and possibly start challenging for the title soon.

  20. Both have played a decent amount of minutes at centre forward if that helps?
Plus, Cou did well (against newcastle I think???) as a falso nueve, it might be a good option for us?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Meh, couldn't be less fussed about this one. I just don't see him making it at the top level. He has good attributes, just not enough of them. He's got a bit of pace, decent movement, an ok finish and he's ok in terms of strength, but nothing stands out. I hope he does well, but I'm glad he doesnt take a bench spot away from Ings/Origi/Yesil, all of whom I think have far more potential than Sinclair.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Sorry but none of the players we have added besides Firmino have really improved us. There may be a argument for Milner but it is not like he will be ripping up the pitch. Clyne is an improvement on Johnson but Clyne came from one of the most defensively well organised teams. Is Clyne going to thrive without a defensive coach?

UTD, Arsenal and Chelsea are all stronger with the signings they have made. City will be spending more money after signing Sterling and they already have a top squad.

If we do not go find a striker capable of scoring 20+ in the EPL then we can forget it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Coutinho is not going to get double figures for us even as a false 9. And in any case, we need Coutinho creating chances.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I fully agree, Ings not good enough to start. Sturridge walking injury. Origi will need to settle, no point in letting him carry all the pressure otherwise he is bound to fail. Borini does not get used, Lambert not good enough for LFC and Balo does not give a crap.

We need another Suarez like player which Benteke is not.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I humbly disagree sir Loges. Milner is better than Allen, Ings is better than Balo (current form), Origi is better than Lambert/Borini, Clyne is way better than Johnson, regardless of who the defensive coach is, and Firmino should* get us alot more goals than Sterling. I honestly beleive that every signing we have made has been an improvement, some more than others, over what we had last season. Even Bogdan is a big upgrade on Jonesy.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Also, I still dont get what you mean by 'it'. You keep saying we'll be kissing 'it' goodbye, but what are you talking about? 7th place?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Riddle me this, riddle me that.

    Top 4.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ah jes. I still think wed be pushing for it

    ReplyDelete
  29. Lambert and Borini out, Rondon and Volland in.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Johnsons been ordinary for years and never great defensively any way but as far as strikers go i would go for Doumbia seems to be a better fit than Benteke or Rondon and Roma would sell.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ings will struggle (I shall eat humble pie if he proves me wrong). If Balo actually just had to wake up and realise he is ruining his career then he might just give Sturridge a run for his money. We are just wasting yet more cash on Ings when we could have just let Jerome Sinclair stretch his legs in the 1st team squad. Clyne is going to be part of a massive problem since Rodgers became manager = Rodgers does not know how to setup his defence and is defensively inept.

Firmino is the type of player all our fans were craving for. He has come at a massive fee, our second most expensive player but I South American players are robust and adapt well to new surrounding so I expect him to hit the ground running.

I still stick, without a prolific striker LFC will struggle yet again this season. If your defence is not up to scratch which our has not been for the last three seasons then you need to counter that with goals at the other end. If we fail to fic one of the two then we will be in for yet more disappointment.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Because he is not being given a chance as Ings is taking his place?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Going on last night which likely i shouldn't for many reasons but i reckon Origi will get more time than Ings he has a lot of energy and reads the game well or so it seems.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Lamberts Mothers best friends, Aunts Nephew, younger sister, is an Aussie,, for Gods sake how could you not know that,,, Oh some people.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think our defensive failings last season were because of a number of reasons, Mignolet being very shaky and lacking confidence, Sakho being injured a bunch, Lovren being clearly out of form (or just rubbish, remains to be seen), Moreno being a bit young and raw, and not really having a right back before Johnson left (about 2 seasons ago!). I dont think Rodgers sets up his defence especially poorly, and in fact it was only his defensive change-up that turned things around after christmas. I think it's more a case of getting a settled back four, most likely Moreno-Sakho-Skrtel-Clyne and getting them to play week in week out together. Not having Johnson is a huge win, plus the fact that we wont (fingers crossed) be playing any midfielders as right backs.
There's also the fact that the defense had Lucas/Gerrard as defensive cover from the midfield and that's like having no cover at all. Hendo and Milner are far harder working and should provide far better cover for the back 4.
BUT I'm sure that if we start off well and dont concede like we did last season, it wont be Rodgers who turned things around (I mean he's a totally clueless idiot who stabs people in the back, trades up his women and slaughters baby pandas in his spare time), it'll be Gary Mac or some other coach that everyone hails.
Also, totally agree that Balo SHOULD be way better than we've seen and personally I hope e sticks around, maybe just till Christmas, but I doubt it. People seem to dislike Ings on the grounds that he is English and thats a bad word around these parts. We payed peanuts for a good young english centre forward, and lets not forget, we need to keep our english quota up too.
    Firmino = big excitements.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Is Firmino a massive fee?, Carroll £35m, Lallana £23m, Robbie Keane £20m etc....................Firmino £22m cash with £7m in add-ons isn't at all bad compared to the dross we have wasted money on.

    ReplyDelete
  37. He has come at a massive fee, our second most expensive player of all time but I said I expect him to hit the ground running.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Not seen much of him, very little to be honest, take your word for it, and scratch him off my list. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. It is because he has refused to sign a new contract. That is why he was not taken on tour.I suspect he is being a bit greedy a la Sterling but Jerome is has not proved enough to play that game.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Loges with ya about a defensive coach i just hope the newies can do a decent job of it if Coutinho can improve his finishing double figures are possible.
With a tightened defense an improved Markovic he scored last night woopee and a decent new striker much can be achieved.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I would say it was a very good deal compared to any of those others I mentioned, 45 goals/assist in his last 66 Bundesliga games I read in the press.................which is excellent.

    ReplyDelete
  42. You would have to believe Balotelli and Lovren can only improve!!!.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Balotellis gone and i have no faith in Lovren.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Because he is not good enough for first team football, clear.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Of course. The fee payed for Firmino compared to Lallana I would say is a bargain.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Both been good players elsewhere!!!.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yes but both are flawed.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I really am not keeping my hopes up. Hopefully the new coaching staff will be the difference between last season this one.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Maybe BR is too soft with them?.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Maybe but Balo is lazy only plays in a certain system and his finishing was diore this season Lovren i will cut it short well just terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  51. A little bit of optimism is nice Loges i know its going to be a slog.
The great thing about the draw is we will likely know what our chances are early on.

    ReplyDelete
  52. All will be revealed in the opener vs Stoke.

    ReplyDelete
  53. To be fair, I dont watch much Russian League, so he might be a worldy now. Doubtful, but possible...

    ReplyDelete
  54. I make a bloody good PIE

    ReplyDelete
  55. Some but after round about 8 i think we will pretty much know a fair bit.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yep the trouble is when everyone is fit and playing to their very best and harrying the opposition we can hold our own with any team but struggle to sustain it over an entire season.

I am not sure that our ins and outs have really altered that significantly whilst our opponents are clearly strengthening.

Like most on here I think we need a guaranteed striker and DM ( that''s two players BR not one flexible buy ;-)) and unlike most I still think Mig is not good enough.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I didnt get a good feeling from Origi yesterday he is way below what we need imo. On the other hand Ings I feel will be great and I have a sneaky, Rodgers forbid, he might push sturridge out of the starting 11 if he hits the ground running.

As for Rondon extremely uninspiring prospect a goal every 2 games will not translate well when faced with the pressures at Liverpool. We need someone like Gonzalo Higuain as our main tatget.

Balotelli I feel we should keep. Afterall if he somehow begins to click with the system he will give us 15+ goals cause he has the potential and he has done it before at other clubs.

    ReplyDelete
  58. ..Now this is more like it; intelligent feet, intelligent movement, can score with his head...looks like another south american who has his feet firmly on the ground and is busy playing football, which is in his blood, probably wont ask for a million per week, wont ask for guaranteed place in the team. In other words a team player..just the knid of striker we need...he probably will be realluy efffective with the other south americans in the team and will be able to switch, flow and adapt, mould create and confuse opposition with rotating movement at front four.....

.....especially given that sturridge feels he will make a comeback this season..we do need goal scorers but this guy gives goals with adaptability....and probably without the ego....

    Lacazette, Lacazette, Lacazette!!

Offer Lyon whatever they want using the Sterling cash. He's the only striker I can think of that will complete our attack and should be our priority.

Illamerindi or Gary Medel to add bite to MF, Abdennour to solidify our defence, Digne to add competition at LB.

Would rather give Markovic and Ibe a chance than getting Chersheyev.

Reus and Pedro are unrealistic as I don't think we have the funds to get Reua and a striker and I can only see Pedro going to Chelsea now if he leaves Barcelona.

    ReplyDelete
  60. ...to concrete your point just a little further; since you decided to become king of understatement....

...Ings lead the line in a premiership team...yes he did and he scored a few goals along the way..he didn't look phased and he had a good presence on the pitch, caused plenty of problems to oppositions....origi lead the line for a world cup team belgium...yes he did and he looked comfortable with the eyes of the world on him.....

....Sinclair...well lets see.....I'd say yes since we are understating it..he has a bit less potential than the two mentioned just now... ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  61. He was left out of the tour because he would not sign a new contract

    ReplyDelete
  62. Got balotelli and Lambert

    ReplyDelete
  63. Maybe after the infamous Lambortelli leaves then he will sign because right now we have way too many strikers on the books.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I watched Saloman Rondon play recently when Venezuela took on Colombia in the Copa America.Rondon played much better than Bacca. He worked very hard by running into space, giving the player on the ball a easy passing option. He was physically dominant whenever the ball was put in the box.Rondon looked hungry to score and he got the goal his performance deserved.
I don't think that type of player fits our system. But I'd rather Liverpool spend 15m on Saloman Rondon than 30+ on Benteke.

    ReplyDelete
  65. You do get Suarez like players. The likes of Lacazette and Higuaín are players who can create something out of nothing. That is Suarez like.

    ReplyDelete
  66. And Lavezzi, Dos Santos, Son, Reus and so on. People thought we'd fold after Kevin Keegan, and we raised them a King Kenny.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Works for me. Still feel Lam and Bo weren't given enough chances, though.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Son or Anderson would be superb. I'd err towards Son because he has a bit more experience as a finisher.

    ReplyDelete
  69. His record is good by Russian League standards and also has a good scoring record in Champions and Europa league.

    ReplyDelete
  70. He only becomes more expensive than Lallana if the add ons are included, so lets hope be earns them and makes that happen. My understanding of 22m base price would be less than Lallana and Suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I hope you are correct

    ReplyDelete
  72. Meh...Benteke looks better.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Well a match winner is someone who can come in and make a difference, which sterling did. And buying firmino is great and all but you see we are not adding to tje squad we are letting one good player in and another one go. Plus this shows that we are ready to sell to our rivals which is teally bad for the club image. What if Chelsea went to Manu with hundred million for rooney back in 2012 ? Would they have sold? Hell no.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Manchester United would have to fork out over £35m if they wanted to prise striker Robert Lewandowski away from Bayern Munich, his agent has warned.

So why are we not testing those waters when his agent is hinting that the player is for sale?

    ReplyDelete
  75. we have 0 chance of signing lewandowski

    ReplyDelete
  76. BR is scared of proven players!! HE would rather waste the same 35 m on benteke

    ReplyDelete
  77. Rooney was on a different level to Sterling, miles away. Match winner makes those 0-0 a win, he rarely did. Could've made it for us and could've become big, but I am sure he won't be missed. Not because he is not good, but because our team depends on Midfield and the striker- Couts and Firminho will make it happen more often than Couts and Sterling did. Raheem so far is a one trick pony- and there are plenty of those- put Lallana or Ibe, or even Markovic on the wing and with our mids and attackers result will come more often than not.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I do know him , but he is not a football fan ?

    ReplyDelete
  79. We can at least try especially when we are going to have to spend £32.5m.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Interesting to read that Bacca said that LFC had tried to lure him , but prefered to join AC Milan as he believed in their project to be the best in Europe .

    ReplyDelete
  81. higuain is nothing like suarez ,he dont run in behind defenders , or dribble have you seen higuain in serie a he more of a target man thats why real sold him in the first place, as for lacaczette its a risk 1 good season in a bog standard league and now youre saying hes suarez , why aint the likes of chelsea man city utd real madrid or even arsenal putting in bids for this guy , they know 1 season scoring goals france ( remember cisse ) dont make you suarez ,

    ReplyDelete
  82. His scoring record isn't all that great. in the league the most amount of goals he's scored in any 1 season is 14 so it's not all that great. He's another target man style player again which I don't believe will suit our system . Since we're supposedly interested in Benteke I'm sure some of the media are just looking around at other players that are similar and guessing we could be interested in them . I don't understand why theirs such a fascination for a strong target man style striker this summer ever since we were linked to benteke. Balotelli, morientes, heskey, Lambert,Crouch , Carroll : we've had our fair share of target man strikers in the past and none of them have been that prolific and especially now with Rodgers system . I think a target man will end up being another massive waste of money like carrol . If we want a target man so desperately we should give Balotelli another season

    ReplyDelete
  83. You cannot keep players who dont want to stat.

    ReplyDelete
  84. It never hurts to ask!!

    ReplyDelete
  85. I have seen Higuian play and he is nothing like a target man. Put Higuain and Benteke in a room and see who gets the most votes. I can assure you it will not be Benteke.

    ReplyDelete
  86. News according to Gianluca Di Marzio is that LFC along with Real are after Fernando Llorente... I'm not aware of Di Marzio ever being wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Suprised LFC didn't take Borini or Balotelli to Aus with em, after all, that's where we would normally leave those we don't deem worthy of a return.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Higuain is a class act.

    ReplyDelete
  89. But would you buy him? or as a Zenit fan, sell him.

    ReplyDelete
  90. 1st game of pre season, he should be smashing in those crosses and goals... Dissappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Thought you wanted a striker that scores goals....Is that Pedro.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Not his fault - that's his mid table mentality !

Can't go for star players ; can't go for a kill when the prize is a silverware.
I am dreaming of the day when LFC fire this man and bring in a man who knows how it's done.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Have you just made a serious point...

    ReplyDelete
  94. You don'tknow about talks over Fernando Llorente then

    ReplyDelete
  95. put them in a room and seen who gets the most votes lol whats this xfactor , higuain hasnt hit 20 goals in serie a he is older than benteke, would cost more than him too ,had a terrible copa ,what has he done flopped at real madrid , and has hardly set serie a alight , anyways it dont matter Benteke wants Man utd ,and Man utd want him , if he good enough for man utd then he is too good for liverpool FACT

    ReplyDelete
  96. yeah, but even if we bid enough , there's no way Lewa would pick Liverpool over ManU, nor Bayern

    ReplyDelete
  97. Wow. Only 2.5m more than Benteke. Got to give it a try.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Question - What type of striker does LFC need?

Answer - A Daniel Sturridge clone/upgrade who is less prone to injury.

Therefore any talk of strikers who rely on heading/crosses will not suit LFC's current style of play under BR.

So unless someone corrects me, the likes of Benteke, Rondon, Llorente, Gomez et al are simply the wrong fit for LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I don't get why we're after him to be honest.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Hoofball perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  101. Antoine Geizmann from the Sterling's cash?

    ReplyDelete
  102. I would say get him and a DM...and we can roar

    ReplyDelete
  103. Not advertising for odds checker or anything but I have found its the best way to find out whether a transfer is realistic go to the next club odds and you can select a range of players and if a players odds around evens or lower I would bet 9/10 the transfer is going to happen, yet jk claimed we were 5/2 favourites to get Pedro I checked there and Chelsea were evens also seems benteke is still set for liverpool(1/3) dispite the odds being 1/6 before the United rumours started

    ReplyDelete
  104. Top four?! - that's an absolute certainty, get with the program man. Everyone else is talking about the title and merely concerning themselves with quite what margin we'll be winning it by.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Neither says this voter, both overrated IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I'd be pretty darn happy with that front three ;-)

  108. Looks distinctly average to me, doesn't appear to fit our style and not convinced he'd set the Prem alight either.
Doubt there's much traction to this one anyway and would think if anything it's, regrettably, being aired with the intent of rattling Aston Villa's cage.
Our Striker quest seems a very simple one to me - irrespective of the 'style of play' argument - the one thing any new striker must be, is a categorical, indisputable, irrefutable, undeniable and most importantly, cataclysmic UPGRADE on what we already have, and lets not forget that we do still have a part time Sturridge to use.

  109. Marco Reus might have a problem though :-)

    ReplyDelete
  110. Heck yes.

Who'd you pick as a defensive mid?

    ReplyDelete
  111. Agreed! Case on point.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Sum yes there is a place. Ahead of Allen who is injured too often. In other news Clasie is about to transfer to Southampton. I can't believe we're letting this happen again. Moving to Southampton for a pittance, moving on within the next 24 months for at least twice that fee.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Allen doesn't complain because he is not available for selection five months out of ten

    ReplyDelete
  114. Me neither mate, even on a free....

    ReplyDelete
  115. Again, a player who seemed to thrive on crosses. We already know how that works out for dodgers. And get this Reus thing out of your head guys it is not going to happen. LFC are running in profit after sterling sell and they dont spend more than 20 mill any summer (FSG). So forget reus. I reccon we are buying a striker (probably around 22 mill) and thats it.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Yes we have 49 mill. But the message is clear. If you have shitloads of cash we are perfect sellouts. That never gets any team forward

    ReplyDelete
  117. My words exactly. Ballo was flacked for something that is not his fault. You need movement around a target man. And correct me if i am wrong.. But Ballotelli is probably one of the more technically gifted target man. If we cannot get him to work in this system, we probably won't do any better with any other target men.

    ReplyDelete
  118. This is the problem with LFC now days! Too many buys and ppl saying it's only £10m or it's only £15m... Good gamble... Well let's look at this gamble... Aspas £7.7m Alberto £6.8m Balotelli £16m Borini £10.5m Lambert £4m all failed! I'd rather one player at £40m than all the other bench warmers! Not to mention wage bill would be so much cheaper with one player at £150k each week than all the 5 mentioned combined!
Time to start thinking and looking like Liverpool!

    ReplyDelete
  119. One price for Liverpool and all English clubs, and another for the rest of the world... No suprise really, the rest of football has to be extremely jealous of the money in English football....

    ReplyDelete
  120. We have to have an interest to be letting it happen, and again....

    ReplyDelete
  121. Apart from the injury worries.....

    ReplyDelete
  122. Yeah... I believe that too.... They looked comfortable together in that game.....

    ReplyDelete
  123. ^have to absolutely agree - especially with mignolet. he's way too flappy and his distribution is awful.
re the striker. we needed that in the jan transfer window window, and wasn't addressed. studge had just come back from injury, and it seemed that that was good enough and we would get by. if im not mistaken, studge got injured again right after the window closed and then we were screwed... i think BR; if we (the supporters), the media or pundits highlight an area that needs attention, BR will completely ignore it with intent. 'the narcissistic one' (not the special), would not be undermined by the likes of us -he knows better...

    ReplyDelete
  124. Nah, It's never really been LFC's way of doing business... Managers don't change that... LFC are about creating world class players... Xabi, Torres, Suarez, Owen, McManaman, Barnes and Dalgleish... All made at LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Exactly! Lacazette and Aubamayang and nuke the deadwood. Net cost would be worth it!

    ReplyDelete
  126. both stiffs......................

    ReplyDelete
  127. right on Logan. at this point we need to stop signing Bolton back-ups and sign 2-3 proven players 1-2 of which must be strikers and clear out Lambortelli ASAP to make room......Add a real DM and nuke Joe Allen and Markovic and put Lallana at the end of the bench

    ReplyDelete
  128. Stuart,
Ian Ayre is holding on line 1; please talk some sense into the man. He has signed 1 great guy and two decent guys. All our rivals are signing big boy upgrades..................

    ReplyDelete
  129. Balo is too damned lazy to excel in the EPL; only 'outstanding' in tv commericals..............

    ReplyDelete
  130. Great comeback :) To be fair perhaps the reality lies somewhere in between our two stances:
Really, we have for the time being just assumed a natural position in the pecking order among what are ultimately *all* feeder Clubs to some extent - when Real or Barca come a calling, then no matter who you are, your players are a leaving ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  131. I do it every now and again just to confuse people ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  132. Unless we take a risk on an unknown I don't think we will find another Suarez easily.

Maybe we need to take a risk and look at South America to see if there are any gems, otherwise we go out and pay silly silly money and try to lure a big name in taking a chance on us getting back into the Champions League.

    ReplyDelete
  133. It would be a brave move to go into the league with the strikers we have at the moment. If we were able to bring quality like Reus or Pedro into the team we would need to alter our system (again).

I'm not against it but not sure Rodgers would take such a risk bearing in mind the pressure he will be under.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Clearly better value in which sense? He's spent recent time in a very poor league, will have issues communicating therefore doubling any settling in period, and is the target of one single average team other than us. Move on. Take the Benteke gamble, and look beyond stats to physical and skill based assets, realising Benteke may just be world class given the correct coaching and team around him.

    ReplyDelete
  135. It's all relative... need vs cost. The question you pose JK is unidimensional and useful only as a trigger for a less than illuminating debate. Perhaps the question should be Do we need him? No point buying the discount. We all love a bargain and often it's impulsive and pointless, because we'll only end up wasting or discarding the commodity. How much is the jacket worth? Depends on the occasion its meant for, how many others I may have in the cupboard, how much money I have etc. This article is inane.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Because we wont spend 35 mil. Fsg actually invests about 20 mill every season. After selling sterling we have about 2.5 mill for profit provided that we sell anther super fringe player we will have around 5 mill profit after that we will buy someone around 25 mill and thats it.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Worth a bid on that basis? I don‘t know.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Thats the point. We miss out on these players by not noticing them now. Fast forward six months and you'll find the Irish "Special One" saying in a press conference what a wonderful player this kid Clasie is.

    ReplyDelete

  139. While that situation needs to change anyway, this time Manc came calling..so guess this will be the norm from here on then

    ReplyDelete
  140. Yes more than £14m

    ReplyDelete
  141. Hmmm, I must have missed the disclaimer. My earlier comment seems to have been removed and I can't think of any reason for that other than perhaps the way I concluded it by saying that this article is totally inane.

    ReplyDelete
  142. We're talking about Pro footballers, most of em are special in some way, but we can't target everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  143. We dont need to. Clasie's talent is obvious. Just like Benteke's was.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I had a particular liking for Johannes Geis in that role. Schalke picked him up for something like 6m

    ReplyDelete
  145. Lets just see it from a different point of view.. Do you think if Benteke is sold to us or anyone by Villa for 32.5 million, they can immediately replace that with a striker worth that much money? Hell no.. Even if they manage to pay the fee plus wage bill no striker worth that much will be willing to play there.. Same goes for us every time we sell someone for a lot of money we have to rebuild from the start hoping that one player with "potential" makes it big and that again is a one or two season wait while the other clubs win more trophies.. Then when finally when one of them do become quality player, we will sell them for.big money qnd the process starts all over again. Thisnis the problem with a selling club.
